Young PR Professional Embraces Multiple Leadership Opportunities at NC State University

NC State PRSSA President Emma KirkpatrickEmma Kirkpatrick is the current president of PRSSA at NC State University. She is a senior majoring in communication, with a focus in public relations. Emma has a number of goals for the chapter this year, including maintaining and recruiting actively involved and interested members, and raising more money to send members to networking events.

She also hopes to provide more networking events throughout the school year other than just PR day in the spring. Lastly, she hopes to continue to help re-brand Red Wolf PR and be able to elect new chapter officers early enough so that they can shadow current officers and have a smooth transition.

In addition to her obligations to NC State PRSSA, Emma is involved with a number of other organizations on campus. She is a member of the Lambda Pi Eta National Communication Honor Society, the PR co-chair of the Phi Sigma Pi National Honor Fraternity, and a writer for the NC State University Department of Communication Newsletter. Emma also used to work as a copy editor for NC State University’s student newspaper, the Technician, and as a tutor at TRIO Student Support Services.

All of her hard work and involvement across campus has given her valuable experience that has led to a number of internships throughout her undergraduate career. She has worked with Miller and Associates PLLC as a general intern, Clairemont Communications as a PR intern, and BASF as a communications intern. She is currently interning with the American Red Cross in a marketing and communication role.

The internship she liked the best so far was her position with BASF. It made her realize that she really enjoys corporate communication and she developed a passion for agriculture after working in BASF’s agricultural division. Therefore, following graduation Emma hopes to go into corporate communication in either the agricultural or pharmaceutical industry.

On a more personal note, Emma was a multi-sport athlete when she was younger, playing basketball and running cross-country and track. Even though she no longer plays, she still enjoys sports as a fan and loves to attend games and meets whenever possible.

If you want to get to know Emma and the rest of NC State PRSSA better, please come to the next meeting, which will be held October 13th.  For more information visit or visit the chapter’s twitter page @ncsuprssa.
